ABOUT US WELCOME
The International Christian School of Lima (ICSL) is truly an international school as it only allows non-Peruvian passport holders to enroll. At the present time 75% of the students at ICSL come from the United States. The ICSL calendar (Aug. - June) and curricula follow the United States system, which allows students transferring from a North American system to continue with their education without having to repeat part of a grade. Many parents have commented on how their transition to Peru was made much easier because their children adapted quickly to the familiar learning environment provided by ICS Lima.
With a student to teacher ratio of 6 to 1 every child receives individual attention. As a small private school ICS Lima is very flexible and creative when it comes to helping the children succeed. Students with special needs or learning difficulties are accepted if they can function in the classroom. ICS Lima has teachers on staff who are certified in special education and as a reading specialist to help students who need to be pulled out of the classroom for special tutoring throughout the day. ICS Lima tries to develop a special program for these students and partners with the parents to insure their child's success. In addition to helping children with special needs ICSL offers classes for gifted students. Advanced Placement (AP) classes such as AP Calculus and honors classes are offered and developed yearly as needed for our students. ICSL has an automated 7,000 volume library with computer workstations for Internet research. The ICSL computer lab has 12 workstations all equipment with Internet access. Students have a computer class from one to five times per week depending on their grade level. Each child has one period of Spanish per day. A new science lab with modern equipment helps the students excel in science and discover new concepts daily.
Teachers who are trained and certified in the United States staff ICSL. All subjects are taught in English. The creativity of the staff is seen in all the special programs offered by ICSL. Each month of the school year has a special theme or event taking place. In August we welcome old friends and new with our "Open House" potluck dinner. Each family brings a main dish to share with the rest of the school family. After meeting with their child’s teacher we all meet for a meal together in the auditorium. September brings "Spiritual Emphasis Week" with a team coming from the USA to speak to the students about relevant topics for their age group. "I Love to Read Month" follows in October. Our students love to compete to see who can read the most books during this month. It is great to see the reading abilities of our students improving during this month. The climax of the month comes on "Storybook Day" when all the students dress up as their favorite character they read about during the month. Of course some of the students might say the highlight is eating the banana split that is awarded to them for being the high reader in their class. The month of November brings "Peruvian Awareness Week" with each class studying about the people, cultures and places in Peru. This week climaxes on Friday with a Peruvian potluck luncheon with class presentations, songs and skits about Peru. December is a special month at ICSL as we celebrate the birth of Jesus with a Christmas musical drama performed by our student body.
After a long Peruvian summer our second semester starts around February 14. This is earlier than most schools in Peru because we also like to take 6 weeks off during the North American summer. In February we again welcome old friends and new with our "Open House" potluck dinner. Our "Science Fair" in March is always a lot of fun with the students doing all kinds of experiments. The last week of April is always a testing week as we administer the Stanford Achievement Tests to students in Grades 1 - 9. The ISCL Math Olympiad (odd years) or the Spelling Bee (even years) blooms in May and is a challenge for all. We love to celebrate the different cultures represented in our student body during "International Cultures Week" in June. This week climaxes on Friday with an International potluck luncheon where each family brings a favorite dish from their home country to share with the rest of the school. After lunch the students present information about the culture they studied with presentations, songs and skits. June also brings high school graduation. ICSL is dedicated to instilling academic, spiritual and personal excellence in all students. The class of 2005 averaged a score of 1180 on their college SAT test and 100% of ICSL graduates have gone on to study successfully at American and Canadian universities.
All students enrolling at ICSL will be assigned to a grade after consultation with the parent(s), a review of previous school records, interviews, and placement testing (if needed). Any grade placement prior to receipt of school records is tentative. Preschool for 4-year-olds (PK) is offered at ICSL. Children enrolling in the PK program must be 4 years of age before October 1 of the current school year. Children enrolling in the Kindergarten program must be 5 years of age before October 1 of the current school year and students entering First grade must be 6 years of age by October 1 of the current school year. Exceptions may be given for children who are coming from schools where placement cut off dates differ and are based on previous records, interviews and placement testing.
ICSL is one of sixteen schools around the world operated by the Network of International Christian School (NICS). Foreign communities in the major capital cities of the world are experiencing growth. As the world becomes “smaller” we want to address the needs of businessmen, diplomats, embassy staff and others who are choosing to take their families with them during their terms of overseas service. ICSL is committed to these families to provide quality education for their children.
ICSL is a loving family environment where children thrive. If you would like more information about our school or to see us in action please email us or give us a call at 51-1-442-6149 for an appointment.
