The PSAT/NMSQT helps students become college ready. It provides detailed feedback on skills, access to scholarships and personalized online tools, and excellent practice for the SAT. It helps the student to see how they would potentially do on the SAT by taking their PSAT scores and multiply them by 10. Additionally, this test is used as the sole qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship which is available to US Citizens and is valued at approximately $5000. ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM?

AP courses can help you acquire the skills and habits you'll need to be successful in college. You'll improve your writing skills, sharpen your problem-solving abilities, and develop time management skills, discipline, and study habits.

Advanced Placement (AP) Program

Are you ready for a unique learning experience that will help you succeed in college? Through AP’s college-level courses and exams, you can earn college credit and advanced placement, stand out in the admission process, and learn from some of the most skilled, dedicated, and inspiring teachers in the world.

From the moment you enter an AP classroom, you’ll notice the difference —in the teacher’s approach to the subject, in the attitude of your classmates, in the way you start to think. In AP classrooms, the focus is not on memorizing facts and figures. Instead you’ll engage in intense discussions, solve problems collaboratively, and learn to write clearly and persuasively.

Most four-year colleges in the United States and colleges in more than 60 other countries give students credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of AP Exam scores. By entering college with AP credits, you’ll have the time to move into upper level courses, pursue a double-major or study abroad.

At ICS-Lima, we have a dedicated teaching staff that want to help students excel in advanced areas. Because of this, our staff have worked hard to provide several Advanced Placement™ courses to choose from. As of August 2016, ICS-Lima offers:

  • AP English Language & Composition
  • AP English Literature & Composition
  • AP Calculus AB
  • AP Spanish Literature
  • AP US History
  • AP World History
  • AP Biology
  • AP Studio Art: Drawing 2D

All students enrolled in AP courses will be required to take the respective College Board AP exams in May of the second semester. These exams carry an extra fee which will be paid along with the student’s August tuition payment. A parent-student contract will outline this understanding and must be submitted within the first two weeks of school.

For students who earn an A,B, or C in an AP course and take the AP exam, ICS-Lima awards an extra GPA point to award the students. Thus, an A would earn 5.000, a B would earn 4.000, and a C would earn 3.000 GPA points respectively.

ICS-Lima is also the exclusive testing location for the AP exam given each May. Students need to contact the Guidance Department ( guidance@icslima.org) to register for the exam. It is also important for the students to consult with prospective universities to ensure the AP exams they have taken will be accepted.
